Ever wondered why solar energy still isn’t as used today even with these promising solar energy advantages?
It’s probably because of these disadvantages that people are thrown-off with the idea.
- High cost of investment.
- It’s a known fact for most people that solar equipments to harness solar energy are quite expensive.
One good example are solar panels. PVs or photovoltaics used for manufacturing solar panels are what’s expensive. Rising demand and relatively low supply of metals used to make PVs are what’s causing this.
- Large area requirement.
Installation of solar panels requires a considerable amount of area in order to cover more light from the sun.
- Solar Energy is only semi-reliable.
Harnessing of solar energy is pretty unpredictable since it depends on real time weather conditions. On a cloudy day, we can not expect to harness as much energy as in a sunny day. Although among other forms of renewable energy, this one is the most dependable.
- Poor aesthetics.
As pointed on bullet #2, solar panels are large and bulky. Plus the color (generally its dark blue) might not blend well with one’s typical house and backyard.
These are the major drawbacks that makes some people think twice about investing in solar power. I can’t blame them, but hey isn’t the advantages of using the solar system greatly outweighs its cons? And surely with research and developing technology, most if not all of these disadvantages will be addressed someday.
